From one reliable source this afternoon, Kyle Dubas is leaning heavily toward trading Jake Guentzel not only before the Friday deadline but, likely, sooner. The reason for the latter: If there's nothing satisfactory offered, that'll allow time for an attempt to sign Guentzel to an extension before that same deadline.
What do those two elements mean?
Well, put together, they mean that Dubas' price will have to be met and, as I reported yesterday, that price will need to emphasize a real, live player above any draft component. It can't be all picks, for what I'd imagine are obvious reasons. Can't expect a pick to mature soon enough to matter to Sidney Crosby.
