• That's the final. Penguins lose, 3-0. Third time being blanked this season.
• GOAL: Devils hit the empty net. Devils 3, Penguins 0
• Penguins pull Tristan Jarry for the extra attacker with 2:30 to go.
• A note, the Penguins have only been shut out twice this season: The season-opener and the terrible game in Edmonton.
• Owen Pickering won't return to the game. Upper-body injury.
• GOAL: Total chaos in front of the crease, Nico Hischier bangs in the loose puck. Cody Glass had the puck inches from his stick for like two seconds with the opportunity to clear it out, couldn't and passed it right to the Devils. Devils 2, Penguins 0.
• Matt Grzelcyk has returned. Still no Owen Pickering.
• For what it's worth: Sebastian Aho is healthy in Wilkes-Barre as of today. Still no Jack St. Ivany, and Mac Hollowell will be leaving for the Spengler Cup soon.
• Penguins are rolling with P.O Joseph-Kris Letang and Ryan Shea-Erik Karlsson.
• Matt Grzelcyk just left down the tunnel, looked to be limping. Penguins down to four defensemen.
• Owen Pickering appears to have left during second intermission. Didn't take a shift this period yet and isn't on the bench.
• Penguins have been the better team through these first few minutes of the third. Better start than they've had the last two periods, too.
• Third period is underway.
• End of the second period. Devils lead, 1-0. Shot are 14-9 Devils.
• My enduring memory of the Stefan Noesen era in Pittsburgh is after he scored in his first game with the Penguins and Evgeni Malkin was the previous holder of the MVP helmet and gave it to Noesen postgame, and it was very clear in the handoff that he did not know Noesen's name, lol.
• GOAL: Finally, something happens. Old friend Stefan Noesen opens the scoring with 2:28 left in the second, the Devils' 13th shot of the game. Parked himself in front of the net and redirected a Nico Hischier pass. Devils 1, Penguins 0.
• Tristan Jarry hasn't been tested often tonight but he's handled the workload well. Up to 11 saves now.
• This is the worst hockey game I've seen all year. Maybe even in several years. The cupcakes up here are gone too.
• Nothing on that power play either, they're 0-for-2 tonight.
• Penguins to the power play with 11:37 left in the second. Paul Cotter gets two for interference, he just shoved Matt Grzelcyk down in front of the net.
• Brenden Dillon just had Michael Bunting pinned down in the corner for quite some time, standing over him.
• Sidney Crosby just had a wide open net in front of him, two feet from the net, and couldn't finish it. Jacob Markstrom tipped it with his glove and it went off the pipe.
• And there it is: For only the third time this season, Tristan Jarry has stopped his first five shots faced in a game. We are all witnesses.
• Second period is underway. Tristan Jarry is one shot away from five.
• End of the first, no score. Shots are 5-4 Penguins. Erik Karlsson is in the box for five seconds to open the second. Thrilling period of hockey.
• Tristan Jarry is up to four saves. Guys ... this might happen.
• Penguins to the PK now with 1:56 left in the first. Erik Karlsson sits for two for unsportsmanlike conduct. I don't know what he did. Mike Sullivan on the bench called it "f---ing s---."
• Nothing on the power play.
• Penguins to the power play with 6:15 left. Dougie Hamilton sits for two for holding Drew O'Connor.
• Midway through the first and shots are 3-2 Penguins. If you're still watching the Steelers, you're not missing much.
• Matt Nieto with a drive-by redirect attempt off a Blake Lizotte backhand pass but Jacob Markstrom make the save.
• Tristan Jarry has made his first two saves. We'll see if he gets to five.
• First shift for the third defense pairing. The P.O Joseph era is upon us.
• Penguins and Devils are underway.
• Devils' lines and pairings:
Ondrej Palat - Jack Hughes - Jesper Bratt Timo Meier - Nico Hischier - Stefan Noesen Paul Cotter - Erik Haula - Dawson Mercer Tomas Tatar - Justin Dowling - Nathan Bastian
Brenden Dillon - Dougie Hamilton Jonas Siegenthaler - Johnathan Kovacevic Luke Hughes - Brett Pesce
