University of Minnesota-Duluth defeated Penn State, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Frozen Four at MVP Arena in Albany, N.Y., ending the Nittany Lions' national title hopes.
The game was tied at 1-1, but Bulldog forward Grayden Siepmann forced a turnover deep in the Penn State zone and Hunter Anderson found it in the slot, wristing one past Nittany Lions goaltender Josh Fleming short-side over the shoulder with 5:13 remaining. Fleming made 36 saves on 38 shots in the game.
Ty Hanson scored into the empty net with 0.9 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
Shea Van Olm opened the scoring for the Nittany Lions at 8:37 of the first period, assisted by Casay Aman and Mac Gadowski.
Max Plante evened the score at 15:02 of the first, assisted by Hanson and his brother, Penguins 2022 draft pick Zam Plante.
Penn State had the ninth youngest roster in Division I this season. The future remains bright for the program, even with freshman Gavin McKenna likely moving to the NHL next season.
