The Rangers are reportedly signing AndrewMcCutchen to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, per Evan Grant. The deal is still pending a physical.
Last season, McCutchen, 39, hit .239 with a .700 OPS, 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 135 games with the Pirates. He led the team in on-base percentage (.333) and walks (67), ranked second in at-bats (477), hits (114), batting average and OPS, and third in doubles (22), home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage.
In 12 seasons between two separate stints with the Pirates, McCutchen played in 1,713 games and hit .281/.372/.467 with 248 home runs and 875 RBIs. He compiled 1,781 hits in 7,368 plate appearances with Pittsburgh.
"Excited for his opportunity there," DonKelly said following the Pirates' 3-2 loss to the Cardinals today. "Obviously, we all know what Cutch has meant to the Pirates and to the city. Those years from '13-'15 and longer for him. Just wish him the best with the Rangers. Excited for the opportunity he has there."
The Pirates play the Rangers April 21-23 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
