Yorke says Jones brings 'good intensity' to live BP
Don Kelly and JaredJones didn't speak following today's abbreviated workout, one in which Jones threw his first live batting practice session at Pirate City.
Jones is currently on the 60-day injured list as he continues his recovery from an InternalBrace surgery he underwent last year. So, who better to speak on what Jones was bringing in his session than one of the guys who stood in the batter's box against him?
"I actually got to face him in 2022 when I was with the Red Sox, and he looks better now than he did then," NickYorke said with a smile and a laugh. "Props to him coming out for the first live and pumping 97, 98. It's good stuff. He looked good."
While Jones was limited on some of his off-speed offerings, Yorke said he landed at least one slider for a strike to him and acknowledged a good-looking changeup he threw to SpencerHorwitz. He also praised Jones for the "good ride-cut" on his fastball.
Yorke also made a point to describe how "locked in" Jones was as he made his walk over to the bullpen for a session that preceded the live setting. Jones had his eyes straight forward on his destination and had his usual intense look about him.
"It's good to bring someone like that who has good intensity to live at-bats," Yorke said. "Brings the competitive juices up a little bit."
