The Pirates have activated OneilCruz from the 7-day concussion injured list and recalled DauriMoreta from Class AAA Indianapolis. They've optioned RonnySimon to Indianapolis and designated AndrewHeaney for assignment.
Cruz has missed the last two weeks after suffering a concussion in an outfield collision with JackSuwinski in Milwaukee on Aug. 12. A day later, Cruz was replaced on the active roster by Simon, who went on to appear in seven games for the Pirates. He collected seven hits in 30 at-bats and drove in two runs, including the game-tying run in Monday’s loss to the Cardinals.
Moreta returns to the big leagues after spending the last 15 days at the Class AAA level. In five major-league appearances this season, Moreta allowed two runs and struck out seven batters over 4 2/3 innings.
Heaney was 5-10 with a 5.39 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 26 appearances (23 starts) with the Pirates. He allowed five runs in relief Monday night here in St. Louis.
