• BrandanBidois struck out 69 batters and allowed just five earned runs in 61 innings in the minor leagues last year. From watching some of the swing and miss he generated during live batting practice today, I don't think Bidois should be overlooked when it comes to the bullpen mix this spring.
"You always want to put your best foot forward, and that's all I'm trying to do," he told me afterwards. "I'm not trying to do too much. Just trying to stay within myself and whatever happens, happens. Wherever I am or wherever I end up, I'll give it everything I can with every pitch."
• JakeMangum has always been known as a pest, in a good way. He's showing it during live batting practice sessions, too, spoiling pitches like he did against JoséUrquidy this morning and proving to be a tough at-bat. It would bode well for him to continue embracing that type of role now that he's in Pittsburgh.
• HenryDavis is already providing value to some of the new pitchers in the mix this spring. ChrisDevenski signed a minor-league contract in January and is in camp as a non-roster invitee. During his bullpen session today, it appeared as if Davis made a suggestion to Devenski based on the horizontal movement of his pitch. Devenski executed and Davis got a, "Good call, Henry" from DeweyRobinson.
