The numbers didn't reflect it, but it looked like Javier Rivas was starting to figure out Low-A pitching at the end of 2024, which earned him a 10-game cameo with Greensboro to close out the season.
He entered with a little more muscle to his frame, and it translated to the field, hitting a career-high 21 home runs while making it to Double-A to end 2025.
There's always been some intrigue in his bat, as he has a great frame (6'6") with plenty of raw power, it was just a matter of making more contact. He succeeded in cutting his strikeouts by around 10% (down to 23% in 2025), although his contact rates remain a tad below average.
Rivas won't have to hit too much to carve out a role in the majors, as his glove will be his carrying tool. He's one of the slickest fielders in the system, even though he stands at 6'6".
The contact rates can still stand to improve, but there's plenty of raw power in his bat and he's a good fielder. There's enough there to be a backup utility infielder, but he'll have to show he can hit in the upper levels to get there, which he has yet to do.
