"We just have to continue doing what we’re doing," Andrew McCutchen told me today after the Pirates' 5-0 win over the Cardinals at PNC Park. "Don’t dwell on it too much. Just shut it off and get ready for the next one. Simplify it as much as possible."
In this 6-0 homestand, they:
• Outscored the Mets and Cardinals 43-4, the most runs in a six-game span while allowing five or fewer runs in Major League Baseball history. The Cincinnati Outlaw Reds ran up 42 in 1884.
• Completed a homestand 6-0 or better for the first time since going 7-0 in June 28-July 4, 2004.
• Pitched a shutout in three consecutive games for the first time since June 14-16, 2015, and shut out one opponent over a three-game series for the first time since October 2-3, 1976.
"Everyone's finding ways to produce and, with that, these wins are coming," McCutchen said. "The pitching’s been great for us for some time now, and the offense as a whole has been better. ... Just keep riding."
