American Family Field has traditionally served as a house of horrors for the Pirates. They lost five of six at this venue last year, suffering a sweep at the hands of the Brewers in August. In that three-game stretch, the Pirates were outscored, 33-6.
The series win they secured with a 6-3 extra-inning win over the Brewers here tonight was their first in this ballpark since 2024, when they won two of three games from July 9-11. That wasn't long ago, but some of the recent struggles here have been significant enough that some Pirates players couldn't recall the last time they had won a series here.
"It's huge," MitchKeller said. "There's quite a few of us that have been here and I honestly don't know the last time we won a series here. But yeah, it feels really good, especially going into tomorrow with a chance to sweep. It's always huge."
“That’s impressive, obviously," NickGonzales said. "I don’t think we’ve done that in a while. At least since I’ve been here, or that I can remember. That’s a really good team, and they know what they're doing out there. They play really good baseball, so to come out here and do that is impressive for us. We’re a good team as well, so we keep proving that to ourselves and keep proving that to the league.”
