Freddy Peralta, the Mets' newly acquired ace via trade with Milwaukee, had an intriguing reply when a New York reporter asked about his opening day matchup with Paul Skenes: "I think the best way that I see that is, I admit and know that he's great, and there's a lot more great pitchers around the league, too. But we're facing each other, he's giving the best for him and his team, and I'm the same way. I see it that I'm competing against him, because I know it's probably going to be a tough day for the offense."
With that he smiled and added, "It makes me better when I know that I have that kind of pitcher on the mound."
Skenes being Skenes, this was what everyone got out of him on the Mets: "They're a good team. It'll be exciting to face them."
Also said something about it being "chilly." It was around 48 degrees. Awesome.
