JackBrannigan suffered a broken nose after being struck by a batted ball during the second inning of Sunday's game against the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla.
Todd Tomczyk said this morning that they're still in the learning phase, but Brannigan did sustain multiple injuries, including cartilage damage, from what was described as "an unfortunate hop."
"The nose is constructed of cartilage and bone. He has injuries to both of those," Tomczyk said. "He was just getting re-examined by our team physicians when I walked out of the athletic training room. We’re gonna schedule some followups with local specialists — ear, nose and throat physicians — to get a better idea of a timeframe. Very unfortunate for Jack coming back from the shoulder surgery. He’s a great kid, great human, great spirits considering what just happened. More to come probably next week, as we learn."
Additonal updates from Tomczyk:
• RonnySimon is about four-plus months since surgery on his left shoulder and is swinging with no restrictions in the cage. He'll probably advance to some field batting practice next week and is projected to get back into game competition in late March, early April.
• Right-handed pitcher RyanHarbin sustained an arm injury to the teres major and lat musculature. He'll undergo repeat imaging in about six weeks to determine his status. He'll be no-throw for those six weeks.
• Left-handed pitcher OddanierMosqueda experienced some left forearm inflammation, soreness and discomfort after his last live batting practice session. He’s going to be no throw for a couple weeks.
• Left-handed pitching prospect AnthonySolometo is healthy. He's throwing live batting practice sessions and the expectation is for him to break with the club for minor league camp at this moment.
