Marcell Ozuna went into Tuesday night's game against the Nationals at PNC Park with abysmal offensive numbers. Outside of the .236 OPS, he had yet to record an extra-base hit or RBI. Though the Pirates lost the game, 5-4, Ozuna finally broke through.
Ozuna finished the game 2 for 4 with an RBI double, ending both droughts with one swing. He also had a lineout in the eighth inning that could have potentially tied the game at 5-5. The ball came off his bat at exactly 100 mph, but Daylen Lile made a nice diving catch to rob him of a third hit in the ballgame.
It's been a huge struggle for Ozuna this season. He signed a one-year, $12 million contract to provide offense and he's been one of the team's worst hitters through the early stages of the season. But, Ozuna, Don Kelly and the team maintain he'll come around.
"Today was a good day," Ozuna said. "I come here every day trying to get my swing back, trying to get my swing path and everything. So I just keep the game on the line. Then I go out there and do for my team and my coach and do my best for myself and my family. I try to do some damage."
