I'll provide updates from Ben Cherington's team-produced radio show with Greg Brown right here this afternoon.
• On Konnor Griffin's health after the hit by pitch during the Futures Game: "He's fine from everything we can tell. He did come to Pittsburgh out of abundance of caution."
• On Oneil Cruz's performance at the Home Run Derby: "He put on a show, unsurprisingly. He responded to the environment. He had all his peers around him, did a great job."
• On Paul Skenes' start at the All-Star Game: "He's very comfortable in those moments with all eyes on him."
• On the Adam Frazier trade for Cam Devanney: "He's a late bloomer at 28, like his offensive performance and ability to play shortstop. It doesn't mean he's going to hold down the position everyday in 2026."
• On trade talk with long-term guys such as Bryan Reynolds, Mitch Keller, Ke'Bryan Hayes: "Our goal is to win in 2026 and we're looking to improve the team...We’re in a situation we don’t want to be in. We need to find ways over the next several days to July 31 to put ourselves in a better situation going forward, to increase the chances of the Pirates being a winning team in 2026 and beyond. That’s our only focus."
• On Seth Hernandez, the first-round pick: "We had him rated higher. Always risk with high school pitchers. We believe in the person and athlete. It is too early to talk about timelines, though we do believe he's advanced for a high school pitcher. We're optimistic (to sign Hernandez) ... that could be coming soon."
