Fresh off throwing a bullpen here in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, JaredJones is now preparing for the next phase in his return to major-league competition. Jones, who underwent right elbow surgery last May, will begin throwing simulated games soon, according to ToddTomczyk. He could throw multiple sim games before the group comes together to establish the next steps, which could include a rehab assignment.
More updates from Tomczyk:
• Jared Triolo (knee) has resumed all baseball activities and is expected to run the bases sometime next week. He's down in Bradenton, Fla. continuing his rehab.
• Mike Clevinger was placed on the minor-league injured list this week with a right knee injury. The official diagnosis is a right knee MCL sprain. They are still learning more and gathering opinions, but the early projection is that he will need to be immobilized for several weeks. He'll have to be braced, take part in strengthening exercises and progress back into in-game competition. He's looking at about six weeks before he can return to competition.
• Edward Florentino (ankle) has played in extended games this week. They want to see how he gets through those extended games before either beginning a rehab assignment or being activated from the injured list.
• AnthonySolometo has experienced recurrent left shoulder pain and is back on the injured list. He's getting another opinion from Dr. Keith Meister and an official update should be available next week.
