Kavan Markwood, the 20-year-old Pirates fan and South Allegheny High School graduate who fell 21 feet from atop the Clemente Wall last Wednesday at PNC Park, showed progress in taking his first steps today, according to JenniferPhillips, the mother of Markwood's girlfriend, AlonnaBrown.
"It’s a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits," Phillips posted on a GoFundMe page that has now raised over $40,000 through nearly 1,000 donations to help Markwood and his family with medical bills and financial hardships that have resulted from the incident. "He still has a long way to go -- he’s dealing with a broken neck, clavicle and back, so there are plenty of obstacles ahead. But he’s showing real strength, and we’re staying hopeful for a smooth recovery. This will also require plenty of rest and following instructions from the great doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital. Thanks so much for all the love, support, and good vibes. It really means a lot as he keeps giving his all to push forward."
