• Ashcraft nearly gets a double play as Gonzales makes a really nice backhanded play to his right and flips it to IKF. Throw was a step late.
• That was just the second time in this series that the Pirates had two or more hits in an inning.
• That's all the Pirates are going to get as Bart strikes out on a fastball.
• That's going to be it for Bubic. He's responsible for Hayes, but he threw 5 2/3 innings, allowed six hits and struck out six while walking two. John Schreiber has entered.

• That fastball Garcia just smoked down the left-field line was way inside. He got out in front of it and was able to turn on it.
• Cruz makes it four straight and then Hayes grounds out to first.
• Gonzales strikes out and that's three straight for Bubic and five on the night.
• End of third inning: Outside of that home run, Falter has been able to limit damage tonight. He stranded a runner at first there by getting a flyout and then striking out Pasquantino with a fastball at the bottom of the zone. It's been a decent outing so far and he's at 43 pitches.
• With runners on first and second, Reynolds misses on a middle-middle changeup. That's a pitch he needs to do damage on, especially in that situation. He's now 1 for 26 in July.
• McCutchen took a pretty big cut at that high fastball from Bubic.
• End of second inning: Falter recovers from the home run and sets down the next three batters on eight pitches.
• Falter gets the benefit of the doubt on a called third strike on the outer edge, striking out Caglianone.
• HOME RUN: Perez just smoked one 444 feet. Got a first-pitch sinker in the middle of the zone and took advantage. An absolute no-doubter. Royals, 1-0
• End of first inning: Royals can't capitalize on Witt's double as Falter gets a popout and a groundout IKF, who made a nice backhanded stop.
• Falter strikes out India with three straight fastballs but then leaves a slider in the middle of the plate for Witt, who doubles off the left field wall.
• After McCutchen singles, Reynolds hits a one-hopper off Bubic's shin. He's tagged out by Perez by Bubic is being looked at by trainers and he'll stay in.
