After throwing 31 pitches on Wednesday in relief against the Brewers, Mike Burrows started on three days rest against the Mets this afternoon at PNC Park as the Pirates won, 12-1.
Burrows’ said his focus was normal, “Same as always. Went out there and got a couple innings in Milwaukee and I think the short rest, that’s kind of why the pitch count was down today. I was just trying to get as many as I could.”
While Carmen Mlodzinski earned the win with his 3 2/3 innings to close out the game, it was Burrows who set the bulldog tone with these two first inning strikeouts of Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto:
Burrows lasted 67 pitches today over 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run – a solo home run by Luis Torrens in the fifth that ended his day – and five strikeouts.
In five starts and that one game of relief this month, Burrows is 1-0 with a 2.73 ERA, 30 strikeouts and five walks.
“I feel good,” Burrows said. “Just making adjustments when we need to and going after guys.”
