Cuyler, Law, Oliver make up Pirates Hall class of 2025
Kiki Cuyler, Vernon Law and Al Oliver will comprise the 2025 class of inductees into the Pirates Hall of Fame, the team announced this afternoon.
The class will be honored as part of a ceremony before the game against the Rockies Aug. 22 at PNC Park, following their formal official induction the day before.
“The 2025 class of inductees all have made significant historical contributions to the organization and are very deserving of this prestigious recognition,” Bob Nutting wrotein a team press release. “Kiki was the hero of the 1925 World Series championship for the Pirates. Vernon was the club’s first Cy Young Award winner and a member of our world champion 1960 team. Al was a key contributor on our 1971 World Series winning team and a part of Major League Baseball’s first all-minority starting lineup in September of that season.”
Mr. Cuyler, who died in 1950, played the first seven years of his 18-year career with the Pirates in 1921-27. He led the National League in games (153), runs (144) and triples (26) in 1925 while also delivering the winning hit in Game 7 of the World Series.
Law, 95, spent his entire 16-year career with the Pirates from 1950-51 and 1954-67. He served in the military in 1952-53. He was the first pitcher in team history to win the Cy Young Award in 1960 after going 20-9 with a league-leading 18 complete games. He was a member of the 1960 World Series champions.
Oliver, 78, compiled a .296 batting average, .335 on-base percentage, 135 home runs and 717 RBI in his 10 seasons with the Pirates from 1968-77. He was a member of the 1971 World Series champions.
