Brewers 8, Pirates 5: But hey, they finally plated five!
Despite ending a streak of 26 games without scoring more than four runs, the Pirates left 10 runners on base in an 8-5 loss to the Brewers tonight at PNC Park.
After Milwaukee led, 8-3, entering the ninth inning, Bryan Reynolds' RBI double and Spencer Horwitz's run-scoring groundout -- with the infield conceding that run -- ended the streak.
"You know what, guys are probably aware of it," Don Kelly would say of the streak. "But as we go through the season, you're just trying to grind together, string those hits together, like we've talked about, and score runs. "Honestly, five's not the goal. We want to score more than that."
Making his first start in the majors, MikeBurrows allowed four runs on two home runs within the first two innings, a three-run shot to ChristianYelich and a solo shot to JoeyOrtiz. Yelich also homered off Isaac Mattson in the sixth.
• Lost seven of their past 10 games • Lost 18 of their past 24 dating to April 26 • Now 5-8 since Kelly became manager
► THE NUMBER
27: Home runs the Pirates' starters have now allowed, fourth-fewest of any rotation in the majors, after the two tonight against Burrows
