Mitch Keller delivered his 12th quality start with seven scoreless innings and TommyPham drove in two runs in a 5-0 win over the Cardinals that secured a second straight series sweep, a six-game winning streak and a perfect homestand this afternoon at PNC Park.
"This is the game of baseball, man," Andrew McCutchen said. "You have ebbs and flows and ups and downs. Right now, we’re on an up. So, just keep riding and doing what we’ve been doing. Just keep continuing to control what you can control."
Keller, now 3-10 despite a generally strong showing, allowed five hits, walked one and struck out seven en route to holding the Cardinals scoreless over seven-plus innings for the second time this season. He also threw 7 1/3 innings of scoreless ball against them April 9. DennisSantana and IsaacMattson closed out the team's third straight shutout win.
A day after needing just one run to win, the Pirates scored in bunches again, relying on a four-run seventh inning to gain some needed separation. Pham drove in the first run with a second-inning single and got the scoring started in the seventh with another RBI single. Isiah Kiner-Falefa added a two-run single and SpencerHorwitz followed with an RBI single.
