Ryan Borucki gave up a sixth-inning home run to Dansby Swanson, but the Pirates' offense struggled yet again as they recorded five hits and lost to the Cubs, 2-1, today at Wrigley Field.
"I just missed my spot a little bit," Borucki said. "I wanted to hit that zero spot or walk him with a lefty on deck and it just stayed up on me. I gotta give him credit, he made a good swing."
Andrew McCutchen hit a first-inning home run and had two hits. Nick Gonzales also had two. Chicago starter Matthew Boyd faced one batter over the minimum through six innings. The Pirates have scored the second-fewest runs (230) in Major League Baseball this year, hit the second-fewest home runs (50) and have the fewest RBIs (220).
Mike Burrows allowed one earned run over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and scattered five hits but was pulled at 81 pitches -- the most of his young career -- one batter before Swanson's home run, who he'd struck out twice.
