Pirates 12, Mets 1: Power surge earns three-game sweep

Oneil Cruz celebrates with Ke'Bryan Hayes after a two-run home run in the seventh inning today at PNC Park.
The Pirates continued boppin' today at PNC Park as eight extra-base hits and four home runs led to a 12-1 win over the Mets and a three-game sweep in which they outscored the visitors by a 30-4 margin.
Back-to-back home runs from Oneil Cruz, who hit two, and Tommy Pham sparked a five-run first inning. Bryan Reynolds hit his 10th of the year in the fifth and finished 2 for 4 to cap off a brilliant three-game set in which he hit three doubles and two home runs. The Pirates finished with 16 hits and recorded 10 or more in all three games of the series for the first time since Aug. 26-28 against the Cubs.
After throwing 31 pitches in relief of Paul Skenes on Wednesday, Mike Burrows worked 4 1/3 innings, allowed four hits and a solo home run to Luis Torrens while striking out five. Génesis Cabrera and Carmen Mlodzinski worked 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
"It was awesome. I was watching Oneil hit one, then Tommy hit one backside," Burrows said. "It was awesome to go up early like that. It gave us everything we needed, so I just went back out and kept pounding the zone.”
