Royals 4, Pirates 3: 'Frustrating' losses piling up
The Royals' home-run onslaught continued tonight at Kauffman Stadium when Bailey Falter gave up two and Isaac Mattson allowed another as the Pirates dropped their sixth straight game in a 4-3 loss.
Salvador Perez hit two home runs and Jac Caglianone added a 466-foot bomb -- the longest home run ever hit by a rookie at Kauffman Stadium in the Statcast era. The Royals hit nine home runs during this three-game series. Falter lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out three.
"They hit the ball really well, and our pitching has been really good, too," DonKelly said. "I think they did a good job this series to give us a chance to win. Credit to them, they hit a lot of home runs and drove the ball out of the park in a tough place to hit, too."
The Pirates' offense scored all three of its runs in the sixth when they scratched together three singles and a walk. It was the second time in this series that they had two or more hits in the same inning. Ke'Bryan Hayes drove in two of them with a single through the left side.
• Lost six in a row • 12-35 away from PNC Park • 26-30 under Kelly
