The Pirates' offense backed another strong Bailey Falter outing with four doubles and an Andrew McCutchen home run in a 5-0 win over the Padres tonight at Petco Park.
Oneil Cruz, Adam Frazier, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Bryan Reynolds all doubled, as the Pirates tagged Dylan Cease for three earned runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings before getting into the bullpen. The Pirates then added five more hits and two runs.
"We’re finding ways to score runs, did it again tonight with the two-out hits, barrelling up some balls with guys on base and we had some loud outs," DonKelly said. "Henry (Davis) drove a ball to deep center and Bryan got that double, but it could’ve been a home run there. Just continuing to pass the baton. Cutch, obviously, with the big home run, was awesome."
Bailey Falter recorded his fourth quality start in May as he worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one. He induced 10 groundouts and three flyouts while getting two inning-ending double plays. Caleb Ferguson, Dennis Santana and David Bednar worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings to close it out.
