KonnorGriffin, the Pirates' top position player prospect and the No. 34 overall prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, is being promoted to Class A Greensboro, per source.
Griffin, 19, was the team's first-round pick in 2024 and sits behind BubbaChandler as the organization's second-ranked prospect. In 50 games at Class A Bradenton, he slashed .338/.396/.536 with nine home runs, 36 RBIs and 26 stolen bases, ranking among the top two in the Florida State League in hits (first), runs (first), stolen bases (second), home runs (T-second) and RBIs (T-second).
Not only has Griffin produced offensively, but he's settled in at shortstop as well. That's an aspect of his game BenCherington addressed during his weekly radio show this morning.
"We decided to give it a shot at short and see that play out a bit," Cherington said. "We didn't really know. We know he's a good athlete and the defense at short has exceeded expectations, to the point where we believe he's a shortstop."
