The Pirates avoided being swept by Major League Baseball's best team by scoring four runs in the 10th inning to beat the Tigers, 8-4, tonight in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Comerica Park.
Ke'Bryan Hayes and Joey Bart each delivered RBI singles, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa's two-run single in the 10th broke a 4-4 tie. Nick Gonzales, Jared Triolo and AndrewMcCutchen each hit home runs in the first three innings.
"Heck of a way to end the road trip against two really good teams, playing the Cubs and against the Tigers," DonKelly said. "They've got a great team over there and, to be able to finish it like that, with all the ups and downs throughout that game, just a really good finish."
PaulSkenes held the Tigers to two runs on three hits and a career-high five walks over six innings, bringing his 12th quality start. He also struck out a season-high nine for a season total of 106. He exited with the Pirates ahead, 4-2.
