Amidst a 15-game stretch in which he's hitting .317 with a .900 OPS, two home runs and 14 RBIs, Tommy Pham insists he wants more.
"I’m just trying to have quality at-bats," he sid after going 2 for 4 with RBI singles in the second and seventh innings in the Pirates' 5-0 win over the Cardinals this afternoon at PNC Park. "Would really like to start slugging more consistently. I’m tired of hitting singles.”
Of the 43 hits Pham has registered during an overall sluggish season, 35 have resulted in singles, six in doubles and two in home runs, both in this recent run. On this day, it should be added, he also registered triple-digit exit velocities on two of his three batted balls, one of which resulted in a groundout. His last run-scoring single hit 108.3 mph.
"To see where he's at now swinging the bat, the way that he is, driving in the first two runs, just great at-bats," DonKelly said.
