Carmen Mlodzinski came in out of the bullpen and surrendered four hits, including a go-ahead triple to Winceel Perez, a solo home run to Javier Baez and a two-run shot to Riley Greene, over two innings in the Pirates' 7-3 loss to the Tigers tonight at Comerica Park.
"Putting guys away when you have two strikes is important," said Mlodzinski, who allowed both homers in two-strike counts. "That's a good offense, though. They're not to be taken lightly. They've swung the bat well and they're hot."
Mlodzinski was hit hard in relief of Bailey Falter, who allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The three runs came on a two-run homer by Perez in the second and a solo shot by Baez in the fifth.
The Pirates scored all three of their runs on four hits in the first three innings, taking separate one-run leads before being limited to one hit in the final six innings. In the second, SpencerHorwitz singled, moved to third on a throwing error by Baez and scored on a groundout off the bat of AdamFrazier. AlexanderCanario drove in the other two runs by following up an Isiah Kiner-Falefa single and an AndrewMcCutchen double with a two-run single in the third.
