Baseball: Reed, Cantwell taken by Padres in MLB Draft
Pitt left-handed pitcher RyanReed has been selected by the Padres with the 460th overall pick in the 15th round of the MLB Draft.
Reed made 14 starts for the Panthers this season, compiling a 5-4 record with a 5.01 ERA. He struck out 67 batters and walked 24 in 73 2/3 innings.
Teammate Luke Cantwell was also drafted by the Padres with the 610th pick in the 20th round. He hit .320 with six home runs and 45 RBIs in 55 games with the Panthers this season.
They are just the second and third Panthers in program history to be selected by the Padres. TravisWhitmore was selected in the 35th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by San Diego.
