The following is a message from AllenGreene on the House vs. NCAA settlement that was approved yesterday:
Dear Panther Nation,
Long-anticipated monumental changes to the college athletics model have officially arrived with Judge (Claudia) Wilken's approval of the House vs. NCAA settlement.
As a result of this historic settlement, NCAA Division I institutions like the University of Pittsburgh are now permitted to pay student-athletes a fee for their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) through revenue sharing.
Even with this courtroom decision, the future of college athletics remains ever-changing. We can and should expect more shifts in the coming months and years.
One thing will not change: Pitt's unwavering commitment to winning championships and helping our student-athletes compete at the highest levels in the Atlantic Coast Conference and nationally.
Fully committed to our championship future, University of Pittsburgh leadership has long been engaged in planning for the onset of the revenue-sharing era. That foresight has Pitt strongly positioned for the 2025-26 year of competition and beyond.
I am grateful for Chancellor (Joan) Gabel and her Senior Leadership Team, the Board of Trustees and our Pitt Athletics staff. Their dedication and tireless efforts help ensure our readiness.
I especially want to express my gratitude to our Panther Club members for their generous support of our student-athletes as we navigate this shifting landscape.
I have been at Pitt for just over seven months, but during that short time, I've witnessed and gained a tremendous appreciation for the strong passion of Panthers fans. Wearing that Blue and Gold resonates deeply.
Pitt Pride has been one of our greatest strengths in the past and will continue to differentiate us as we navigate the future.
That was evident this past fall, when we introduced the Athletic Director's Fund to fortify our financial preparedness ahead of the anticipated House settlement.
We asked for your help and Panther Nation continues to deliver. More than 15,000 of you have made a gift to the Panther Club this year, including multiple seven-figure gifts --highlighted by Ed and LyndaSue Miller's $1 million commitment to Pitt football in December -- with more gifts and pledges on the way.
Now more than ever, major college athletics is relentlessly competitive. I know the University of Pittsburgh and its passionate supporters will be equal to that challenge. Support the Athletic Director's Fund by making a gift online or calling the Panther Club (412-648-8889).
Nothing great is ever accomplished alone. Working together, we can ensure the Panthers' greatest days lie ahead!
Hail to Pitt!
