Pitt's defense has taken another hit. First defensive coordinator Randy Bates announced his retirement and now linebackers coach Ryan Manalac announced he has accepted an offer to become UConn's defensive coordinator,
Manalac, 40, has coached Pitt's linebackers since 2021, developing the group into one of the most dynamic in Division I. Before joining the Panthers' staff, manalac served as defensive coordinator at Bucknell for two seasons. A former NFL player for the Bengals and Bills from 2005-2010, Manlac went directly into coaching, with stops at Michigan State, Valparaiso and Ohio Dominion.
This makes sense for Manalac, moving to a DC job with an emerging program. The Huskies, an independent, finished 9-4 this season, losing the Wasabi Fenway Bowl to Army, 41-16.
Pat Narduzzi now must work quickly to replace both, to both secure his commits and attract players in the portal.
