The RMU men's hockey team today announced the addition of Marco Treviño to its coaching staff as an assistant coach. This move is expected to aid the program's player development and recruiting efforts. The announcement was made by head coach DerekSchooley.
"We're thrilled to welcome Marco Treviño to the RMU Hockey family," said Schooley. "His expertise in individual skill development and elite junior coaching is a huge asset, especially for player development and recruiting. Marco's commitment to his athletes will ensure our players smoothly transition, excel, and maximize their potential both on and off the ice at RMU."
Treviño joins the Colonials after a successful tenure with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL), one of North America's premier junior hockey leagues. He served as the head coach for one season with the Storm, following a period as an assistant coach. His record of 29-29-3-1 took them to a playoff bid this past season as a head coach. He coached four NHL draft picks in his two years in Kearney, Neb. with the Storm.
Prior to his impactful stint in the USHL, Treviño accumulated over a dozen years of valuable coaching experience across highly respected youth organizations, including the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, Detroit Victory Honda, and Detroit Little Caesars. This extensive background has provided him with a deep understanding of player progression from youth to junior to the collegiate level.
Before transitioning full-time to the Storm's coaching staff, Treviño was a key contributor to Tri-City's scouting and personnel matters for two years, further enhancing his eye for talent and team building. Treviño enjoyed a three-year playing stint in the United States Hockey League with the Waterloo Black Hawks and Sioux City Musketeers between 2001-2004. He also competed in two professional seasons before embarking on his coaching journey, giving him firsthand knowledge of the demands and expectations of high-level hockey and what it takes for players to develop at each stage.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to join the RMU Men's hockey staff," said Treviño. "I want to thank Derek for the opportunity to join his staff. I'm looking forward to learning and growing as a coach and person at RMU. Being back home in Pittsburgh is such a blessing for me and my family. I can't wait to meet all the players and get started. Let's go BobbyMo!"
Originally from the Beverly Hills, Mich. area, Treviño's addition to the RMU coaching staff reinforces the program's commitment to providing its student-athletes with elite-level coaching and support as they pursue their academic and athletic goals, with a clear focus on player development.
