Our Downtown HQ/shop continues to be a winner for us, in large part because Downtown itself keeps getting more and more people working, living and visiting here. Sales are up 11% over last year, which was our best year to date.
We banked on the heart and soul of our region three years ago, and it's paying us back.
Even so, nothing packs the place quite like the football team having a home game, and the Steelers, of course, open their Acrisure Stadium schedule tomorrow against the Seahawks. Which brings bunches of season-ticket holders from all over North America to fill up our hotels in the Golden Triangle and, in turn, ideally, to stop at 224 Fifth Avenue to see what we offer.
All I've got to say is this: We're here today. Dali's got tremendous, authentic, elite-quality, NFL-licensed stuff that she's hand-picked from our partners at the 47 brand, it's all sold at the manufacturer's prices. The shop will have extended hours today, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and, if anyone might care, I'll be around, too, beginning at around 2 p.m.
Come see us! Make a day of it in our golden, historic, vibrant Downtown!
MILITARY DRIVE ALREADY 158!
Our annual Military Drive to 1,000 had a colossal opening week with 158 already contributed!
Now, I'll remind here that every contribution's appreciated equally on this end, large or small, but I'd be remiss if I didn't shout out that 100 of those came from a single individual who asked to not be identified. And that several others came from military members or veterans themselves who once received their own subscriptions here for free.
This came from Peter: "As a 20-year military man myself, I have loved your coverage. As I traveled the world on various submarine deployments, it was your coverage that kept me connected to the teams and city I love. With that in mind, I would like to purchase five of the $20 military subscriptions. I hope it helps other sailors, soldiers, marines, and airmen feel as connected to the city as it helped me to be."
If you're interested in covering the cost for a veteran, at $20 each, please email me directly at DK@DKPittsburghSports.com with how many you'd like so that I can thank you personally, after which I'll forward your email to Dali for processing.
DUBLIN MEETUP: SEPT. 26
We've settled on a date, time and place for our Dublin subscribers' meetup: It'll be Saturday, Sept. 27 — day before the Steelers and Vikings kick off at Croke Park -- at 4 p.m. Irish time, and it'll be at the Starbucks right at the edge of historic O'Connell Bridge.
Three of our staff will be there -- Chris Halicke, Dali and myself -- and, hopefully, you will, too, if you're making it across for the main event!
THEY KEEP COMING!
I'm thrilled to share that our influx of new subscribers to this app/site from our video/podcast followers has ... wow, it's really becoming something. More than 300 new signups in the past three weeks. Some seniors. Some students. Some emergency workers. Some military. I'll try to share more specific figures soon, but that'll take time.
Regardless, it's been so uplifting for me personally to hear from so many of you via email.
Welcome!
INSIDE THE WORKS
• Prefer to see your favorite college on the app's home page. Open your profile at the top left corner, tap Customize App and choose any team in the bottom half to replace Pitt. (Or hey, just leave Pitt there if you're a Pitt fan, right?)
• Yes, we have places to comment on today's college football games. There's one in each school's feed right now, set up by Bob Maddamma, and there'll be follow-ups aplenty once each game ends. As for in-game updates, those will be up to you in comments!
• We have schedule/results pages now for the Steelers, Pirates AND Penguins. The scores that you see in those schedule pages link to our own game-center files, so it's a useful reference.
• Paying subscribers live here ad-free. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/restart at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts for students, seniors and special workers.
• Feel free to add a generous review on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, arguably most important, our own official app pages, whether it's the Apple or Android version. It makes a difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
• Our page-view numbers were 798,363, with 25,040 unique users over the most recent full seven-day span, Sept. 5-11. Our most-read original piece was my column on the Steelers' opener from East Rutherford, N.J., at 11,284.
• Our video views for the past week, also Sept. 5-11, were an all-time record 312,574. Our most-watched program was my Monday morning Daily Shot of Steelers podcast on Aaron Rodgers' excellence, at 27,951.
