Site Stuff: 'Tis the season ... to come see us Downtown!
City workers installed the big wreaths, with the even bigger red ribbons, up and down Fifth Avenue in front of our HQ/shop Friday, and I couldn't help but capture that in photo form above.
I'm a perpetual sap for Christmas, if only because it conjures up up all kinds of childhood memories, both of my own and of my two children, and nothing's better than that.
It also reminded me to share this: Come see us, dammit!
Partly just to say hello and offer us a chance to thank you for your support of this venture. But also to check out the hand-picked selection of official, high-quality Pittsburgh sports merch that Dali's put together over these past few months, a lot of which is legitimately hard to find elsewhere. She works to maintain the place with the same spirit and pride that we do our media operation as, as everyone sees upon visiting, it shows.
And for those who live far away, we offer gift subscriptions and (very limited) online merchandise! But we'd always rather see some smiling faces, so get down here and make us part of your Downtown day, whether it's to skate on the PPG Rink, to check out the gingerbread shops, to see the historic Horne's tree ... whatever that might be!
DOUBLE SHOT OF ... PENGUINS!
It's certainly been demanded often enough, and now, we'll be offering a Double Shot of Penguins live video every weekday at 4:30 p.m., debuting after Thanksgiving week. It'll be found on our YouTube channel and, of course, right here on this app.
OLYMPICS? YES, PLEASE
I'll have more on this in the weeks to come, but I'll be covering my sixth Olympics, my third Winter Games, this February in Milan, Italy.
I'll be taking an infinitely less intensive approach than the previous five -- these can be a real killer, as I've described in the past -- and limited largely to the men's ice hockey for obvious reasons. But another part of the goal, to be all-the-way honest, is to take as much of a break from regular activity as possible and see a country I've never visited.
Regardless, it's another piece of our commitment to bring you hockey coverage like no one else.
A FINAL THANK YOU!
One final time: Thanks to everyone who contributed to another successful Military Drive to 1,000! Every outreach counted, large or small!
And thanks, above all, to those who've served in our nation's armed forces, currently or in the past. Here's where to claim your free subscription.
INSIDE THE WORKS
• Really bumpy week for the platform, comments in particular. We're aware of all of it, and the developers are legitimately giving it their all to correct it. Best thing I can say, in addition to asking for -- and appreciating -- your kind patience.
• José Negron will fly to Orlando, Fla., next month for Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings.
• If you'd like to let everyone in the Asylum know how long you've been with us, go to My Profile -- top left corner of the app/site -- and find the line marked 'Member Since,' then choose the year you arrived. That's it. You'll see it in comments.
• Paying subscribers live here ad-free. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our Subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/restart at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts for students, seniors and special workers.
• Feel free to add a generous review on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, most important, our own official app pages, whether it's the Apple or Android version.
