Site Stuff: Our HQ/shop's a place to convene, converge
Funny how things can converge.
Our Downtown HQ/shop at 224 Fifth Avenue serves multiple purposes beyond the obvious retail component at street level: It's also our meeting place for the staff, for advertising opportunities, for job applicants and the like. It's also our studio for all three Double Shot video programs. And by the time the NFL Draft hits, it'll also be ... well, let's just say all these still-unopened boxes aren't sprawling all over the place for nothing.
It can be fun, too.
Several readers/viewers/listeners happened to stop by yesterday, including my first encounter with a good man who goes by 'Belted Cattle' in our Asylum, and it was a blessing to get to know them. Same goes for the father/son who traveled down from Montreal for a weekend of hockey Pittsburgh-style. Same goes for the young man who just happened to spy our sign from outside and wondered if it had anything to do with his favorite football show.
Dali and I enjoy it. We really do. It's a lot of work sustaining the operation, and it's profitable for that investment, but our main motivation's always been how it all goes together. There's a branding element, a recognition element, a human element.
So, when we were thinking this week about where to store all this silly mini-helmets I've been buying for the set of the Double Shot videos, she and Chris Halicke came up with the concept of sticking them up right there on the wall at the back of the studio:
DEJAN KOVACEVIC / DKPS
Every NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball team! Right within our reach!
I mean, where else can one come across such a scene?
(And no, they're not for sale!)
RUNNING LOW ON BRICKS!
The first week of our once-and-for-all final sale of Builders Bricks onto the back wall of our Downtown HQ/shop went ... wow, really well! And thanks to all who contributed!
That said, it's both good and bad, in the sense that there isn't much space left, and there isn't much time. To have everything up in time for the NFL Draft, our engravers in the Strip need to have all orders submitted by March 17, so that'll be our deadline here, as well.
This phase is being limited to the Blue ($250) and Gold ($1,000) Bricks, same prices as the original wave. You let us know the message you'd like, and Dali works with you on the rest. Also, each comes with an exact replica for you to have.
• I'll be right back at the rink today and tomorrow for the Penguins' games against the Flyers and Bruins. After that, it's across the continent for a five-game trip that begins and ends in Raleigh, N.C., and includes stops in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Denver. Taylor Haase will do all of that with me, as well. It's a big deal, and we're putting all we have into it.
• At the request of many readers, I've added permanent new boxes on our desktop sidebar to make it easy to find any of our five recurring features, including Live Qs, Friday Insider and, of course, the one you're reading now. I'll try to find a way to make that happen on the app, too.
• Always worth reminding: If the font size on the app isn't for you, there are five different sizes from which to choose. Just go to your profile -- tap the top left corner -- thumb down to 'Font Size,' and choose from the scrolldown menu there.
• A reminder I'll be making a lot in 2026: A subscription to this app/site covers only that. It doesn't apply to any of those monthly memberships we offer on YouTube. And the same is true, obviously, in reverse. The reason: The platforms have nothing in common from the commerce perspective, and we couldn't create a single model if we tried.
• Our video views for our most recent full seven-day span, Feb. 27-March 5, were 230,267. Our most-watched program was my Monday Daily Shot of Steelers on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, at 10,278.
• Our page-view numbers, also for Feb. 27-March 5, were 692,299. Our most-read original piece was my Grind from New York on Evgeni Malkin's contract dust-up, at 12,500.
