Site Stuff: Let's hear from our Military Drive members!
I'm not big on bias, but I'll admit this: There's no correspondence I welcome more than hearing from those who've benefited from our annual Military Drive to 1,000.
The appreciation they express -- imagine that! -- the stories they share, and then, in countless cases, how they themselves will eventually contribute to the Drive ... there's never been anything like it in the 11 years this company's been kicking.
See the gentleman in the pic above?
That's Thomas Caruso, and to the right, that's his daughter graduating from the Marines just a few days ago on Parris Island near Beaufort, S.C. He sent that as part of our Subscriber Snaps program, since he's been a subscriber through our Military Drive for a good while now. And it just ... man, it just blows my mind that he thought of us in a moment like that.
Obligatory update: The Drive had a nice week, with 58 contributions, bringing our total to 495.
Obligatory plea: All of that's terrific, but it also means we aren't even halfway to the goal. Veterans Day is Nov. 11, only a couple weeks away. We've fallen short of that goal just once, and that was in the COVID year. Let's never do that again.
Obligator instructions: If you're interested in covering the cost for a veteran, at $20 each, email me directly at DK@DKPittsburghSports.com with how many you'd like so that I can thank you personally, after which I'll pass you along to Dali for processing.
But here's where this entry will differ: I'd love to hear from more of you, meaning today in the Asylum, who've used the Military subscriptions, and who might still be using them. Tell us your story. Tell us how you found about us. Tell us how you learned of the program.
We can acknowledge contributors to this Drive into infinity, but there's nothing quite like hearing directly from you, those who've served our nation's Armed Forces.
And as ever, thank YOU!
INSIDE THE WORKS
• The Downtown HQ/shop's open all weekend with crazy hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, then 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday leading up to Steelers-Packers kickoff across the river. I'll be there, as well, for a big chunk of that, later in the afternoons. Come see us, dammit.
• Want to know how much winning/hope matters in our world? Since Oct. 7, the day the stirring Penguins began their season in New York, their team feed's accounted for 19.27% of our total traffic, compared to the Steelers at 15.17%. That's a reflection of reality of Pittsburgh as a hockey town but also, again, how much winning/hope sells the product. Or doesn't sell the product. Our football coverage hasn't changed in the slightest. Only the consumption.
• With so many new subscribers -- we're at 493 since beginning the push to bring over our multimedia viewers/listeners -- we're also seeing so many gray faces in the comments. To change that, put up your own avatar by visiting your Profile, then adding a pic right up there in the top circle by the camera icon. If it doesn't take at first, try a smaller file.
• Paying subscribers live here ad-free. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/restart at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts for students, seniors and special workers.
• Feel free to add a generous review on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, arguably most important, our own official app pages, whether it's the Apple or Android version. It makes a difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
