In my most convincing Jim Mora voice: PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?!?
Feels like it's been a while in our city, I've got to say, even within the strange scenario that the Steelers just had a home playoff game after winning the AFC North. But ... well, yeah, you were there, too, and you saw for yourself what that was like.
I'm talking about a battle into the playoffs. I'm talking buildup. I'm talking boom once it hits.
I'm talking about, of course, the stirring season the Penguins have had through the NHL's ongoing Olympic break, about possibly putting themselves into even stronger position should Kyle Dubas bolster the roster at the trade deadline, about ending a three-year drought, about another collective ride for Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and company.
I'm proud of being one of the precious few people anywhere to have foreseen this team being playoff-worthy, and I'm here to tell you, I'm ready to see it through.
So here's my plan, after a few days of back-and-forth with Dali: Barring some sort of crazy collapse by the team, which I don't expect, I'll push to cover every single game. Home and road. Regular season and into the ... PLAYOFFS.
I do most games, anyway, but this will be ALL. It's a logistical challenge, as anyone might imagine, particularly within all the live video we're doing now -- though I'll have plenty of help -- but I've done this before, and it's resulted in some of my most satisfying work. It's the best way to develop a rhythm for the content, the best way to analyze the hockey itself and by far the best way to work with the most important players, the coaches, the staff, and so forth.
Short-term, I'm bound for Bradenton, Fla., for the coming week. I'll get my baseball fill.
Beyond that, a bunch of puck-drops. All across the continent.
Quite literally can't wait.
INSIDE THE WORKS
• We debuted our Double Shot of Pirates live video program Wednesday, and the first three shows were fun, particularly in having José Negron join Chris Halicke and me from Bradenton. So Chris and I are now doing these for all three teams, all in a fairly tight window of around 90 minutes beginning at 3 p.m. each weekday.
• When I'm back from Bradenton, Chris will embark for Indianapolis and the NFL Scouting Combine
• A hopefully helpful reminder I'll be making a lot in 2026: A subscription to this app/site that you're now reading covers only that. It doesn't apply to any of those monthly memberships we offer on YouTube. And the same is true, obviously, vice versa. The reason's that the platforms have absolutely nothing in common from the commerce perspective, and we couldn't create a singular model to cover everything if we tried.
• Our app users soon will be able to expand photos, coinciding with the visuals we're offering from Bradenton. I've gotten a glimpse at the gallery format, and it's very friendly.
• Feel free to add a review of any aspect of our business on our Google business listing, or on our Appleand Spotify podcast channels. Makes a real difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
• Our video views for our most recent full seven-day span, Feb. 6-12, were 190,745. Our most-watched program was my Daily Shot of Steelers on the Sam Darnold storyline, at 11,708.
• Our page-view numbers, also for Feb. 6-12, were 609,578. Our most-read original piece was the staff's Friday Insider, at 9,573.
