Pick up on a pattern around here the past few days?
Like a plethora of pretty new logos?
I haven't called attention to it or anything, but, partly in an attempt to organize my own writing workload, partly because I'm just a big fan of predictability when it comes to reader expectations, I've been piece-by-piece filling out my Grind feed with weekly features, complete with some fancy new names and looks:
• Monday: 21 Takes -- Just what it sounds like. It's set for Mondays with a purpose, principally to be my vehicle from (most) football games.
• Tuesday: Reader polls -- Three fresh polls each week, allowing all readers to vote but only our subscribers to comment with their thoughts.
• Wednesday: Breakdown -- This might be my favorite, as it's the kind of reporting/writing I enjoy doing the most. Almost always from an event, I'll try to dig deep into a play or trend while also getting insight from the participants
• Thursday: Snap Shots -- Pictures I take from wherever. I love to do it. Might as well share.
• Friday: Live Qs -- Same as ever. Also only for our subscribers.
• Saturday: Site Stuff-- That'd be this thing right here.
All of these are now extremely easy to find, in our main menu under 'Regular features,' on the desktop's sidebar and by thumbing down to the bottom of the app's home page.
I love writing. I love the written component to what we do. I love having the opportunity to make it work in all ways, including economically. I'll do my best.
I hope everyone reading this feels the same way, and I'm eager to have a dialogue about it in the comments here with our subscribers.
SPECIAL WORKERS DRIVE: 326
For the week on our annual Special Workers Drive, we had 57 new subscriptions committed for a total of 326 toward our goal of 1,000.
For anyone unfamiliar, we offer deeply discounted subscriptions to teachers, police, fire, EMTs, nurses and volunteers, and we have this drive to ensure we're not doing so at a long-term loss. (Their prices never change.) Many of those people share that they'd never otherwise have signed up, so it's proven to be plenty worthwhile.
• App alerts are better than ever. Meaning those sent by our staff, and those that come from other subscribers replying to your comments. Open your profile -- top left corner on the home page -- thumb down to Preferences, then Notifications, and tap Select. Once there, atop that list, you'll see 'Show Alerts in Bell.' Toggle that ON.
• We still have a few long-sleeve NFL Draft hoodies/sweatshirts at our ONLINE SHOP, with prices at HALF OFF, and shipping FREE! (T-shirts and caps are gone.) But hurry!
• Check out our all-new baseball statistics, standings, schedule and scoreboard. Of course, we'll add those for football and hockey once those seasons approach.
• Travel ahead: Greg Macafee will cover the Pirates' trip to Philadelphia next week, and José Negron will have the rest in Washington. Then, Chris Halicke will cover his third consecutive All-Star Game, also in Philadelphia.
• Feel free to add a review of any aspect of our business on our Google business listing, or on our Appleand Spotify podcast channels. Makes a real difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
• Our page-view numbers for our most recent full seven-day span, June 19-25, were 585,532. Our most-read original piece was my 21 Takes this past Monday, at 11,659.
• Our video views, also for June 19-25, were 188,704. Our most-watched program was Chris'Chalk Talk on Patrick Graham's blitzing, at 8,288.
