There are so many places for a sports fan to find what they want, and the push for us -- or anyone in this industry, really -- is to have your place be the choice.
That'll always be optimal for us. Obviously.
If you come to DK Pittsburgh Sports for the kind of original, on-location coverage we're striving to offer, that checks all our boxes. You'll read. You'll watch. You'll listen. You'll download the app. If you're doing that without a subscription, you'll see some ads. If you're all-the-way supporting what we do through a subscription ... we love you.
But what if we did more door-knocking, so to speak?
If you're the social media type, you'll notice in the coming month that I'll be trying some strange stuff. Like today, for instance, I posted a complete copy of my Penguins draft column from the weekend, if only to see what the reaction might be. I'll be doing that on Facebook and YouTube soon, as well.
Yeah, I get it, we're already here and we're already free. But to understand the online world is to understand that people HATE migrating off their preferred platform, price be damned. They'd just rather not leave. And it's those people who'd be, theoretically, the toughest sell in ever giving our content a try.
As we see it, we've always got to be growing, and that only happens by being engaged with people of all types, age groups, platform bases, you name it.
Just an experiment. I'll share how it goes.
SPECIAL-WORKER DRIVE: 777
There were 31 new contributions this week to our special-worker drive, 25 of those from one individual, so our new total's 777!
Thanks to everyone!
We're seeking reader help building a fund of 1,000 discounted subscriptions for teachers, police, fire, nurses, other emergency workers and, of course, anyone who volunteers in any capacity. They're $20 per contribution.
• With the Steelers off the grid for another three weeks, we'll try to get vacations out of the way. That'll include my own, July 11-17, back over to Serbia again to spend time with the family, this time taking Dara with me. She's been there before, but very briefly and not in any depth. This, I hope, will change that, as it did when I took Marko a couple years ago. I'm born and raised in Pittsburgh, but I'm intensely respectful of our family's roots.
• If you're not ad-free, it's only for paying subscribers. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/restart at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts for students and seniors.
• Feel free to add a good review on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, arguably most important, our own official app pages, whether it's the Apple or Android version. It really makes a difference.
BACK TO BUSINESS
• Our page-view numbers were 741,892, with 25,367 unique users over the most recent full seven-day span, June 20-26. Our most-read original piece was my Pirates column from PNC Park, at 10,326.
• Our video views for the past week were at 164,133. I'm going to pause putting out the podcast numbers until we can get figures that are far firmer than what we have.
• Thanks for reading and, as ever, for your support of this proud independent venture.
