This week, the entire NFL world makes its way to Indianapolis for the annual Scouting Combine. It marks the true start to the offseason, and we'll learn what direction the Steelers are going over the next couple months.
The Combine festivities will get underway on Tuesday as coaches and general managers break their silence with the media. For the Steelers, Omar Khan will be addressing the media twice on Tuesday morning, first with traveling reporters from Pittsburgh and then a session at the podium. Mike McCarthy, while he'll be in attendance and very busy throughout the week, will not be hosting a podium session.
Starting Wednesday, we'll hear from the 319 players will be attending this year's Combine, and they'll all host their own podium sessions over the course of four days. Defensive linemen and linebackers will address the media on Wednesday, defensive backs and tight ends on Thursday, quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs on Friday and offensive linemen on Saturday. Each position group will work out the day after they address the media.
From a Steelers perspective, this is a big week. Even if Khan holds his cards close to the vest with some answers, we will get a much clearer picture of what the next couple of months will look like. In addition, Khan and McCarthy will be heading up a massive endeavor, coordinating meetings with dozens of players that'll move up and down the draft board Andy Weidl is tasked with building. Last year, the Steelers were thoroughly impressed with Derrick Harmon at the Combine. A couple months later, he was their first-round pick.
In addition, all other 31 GMs will be in Indianapolis, too. Perhaps Khan even starts planting seeds for future trades. That's known to happen, too. Either way, there's a lot coming this week.
