Mike Tomlin may or may not wind up working in media, but his latest move indicates a significant possibility toward a shift from coaching.
According to Front Office Sports, Tomlin has signed with the Montag Group. He'll be represented by Sandy Montag and sportscaster-turned-agent Alex Flanagan. It's also expected for them to be hearing networks out about potential fits for Tomlin's services.
Tomlin will likely be sought after by most everyone, whether they have an opening or not. Tomlin fascinated networks throughout his 19-season tenure as head coach of the Steelers. Now, those same networks will have the chance for the right to sign him to a contract that'll likely dwarf the dollar figures he made as a coach.
The last I heard about Tomlin's post Steelers career was at the Combine. One person I spoke with who had been in touch with Tomlin on a regular basis since he stepped down indicated that coaching again wasn't a likely option for Tomlin. This source also wasn't fully convinced Tomlin would go into media work, but didn't rule it out, either.
Now, it appears Tomlin has taken a concrete step toward that new career.
