The answer is: No one really knows. There are reports of Rodgers coming to town this past weekend, the same weekend as the team's rookie minicamp, but there was no visit at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. This goes right in line with my original reporting of me reaching out to two sources on the inside having no idea about any potential visit.
Of course, Rodgers doesn't have to come in person to agree to a contract. His agent and Omar Khan can iron out whatever details over the phone. All Rodgers would have to do at that point is physically sign whatever deal that's drawn up.
The outstanding issue, as it's been all along, is Rodgers' decision of whether or not he wants to play a 22nd season in the NFL. He'll turn 43 years old in December. He's already a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He doesn't need to keep playing to prove anything. If he plays, it's because he wants to.
But, from the Steelers' perspective, they really want this wrapped up -- one way or another -- by the start of OTAs on May 18. If Rodgers is coming back, he needs to inform the team this week. If not, then the team might go ahead and move on without him. Either way, this is about to come to a head.
