The Steelers were in a position where they felt they had no choice but to first wait on Aaron Rodgers, then to pay him whatever he wanted. But they were in that position because they put themselves there.
To me, the progress of the franchise remains at a near-standstill until future quarterbacks to real, tangible, visible and competitive strides. I'll stand by that. The NFL isn't like other leagues because football isn't like other sports. This position's not just pivotal. It's paramount.
For everyone who believes the 2026 season can be capped by a Super Bowl appearance for the Steelers, yay for you. I'm not there. I'm not close to there. And as such, I'd much rather have seen, in some form, a scenario that would've allowed one or both of the young quarterbacks in the fold an upward path in 2026. Starting Mason Rudolph would've offered that. Starting Rodgers doesn't.
But hey, what if they're, like, 1-5 before flying to Paris?
