The Steelers have signed tight end Robert Tonyan and linebacker Jamin Davis to one-year contracts. The team made the moves official Thursday afternoon.
Tonyan, 32, was at Steelers minicamp as a tryout. He has previous ties to both Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers. Tonyan went undrafted out of Indiana State in 2017, but later signed with the Packers practice squad that season and re-signed for the 2018 season. He then spent the subsequent five seasons in Green Bay -- all with Rodgers as his quarterback -- and tallied 137 catches for 1,437 yards and 17 touchdowns during that span.
Since his time in Green Bay came to an end, Tonyan has bounced around for the past three seasons, spending 2023 with the Bears, 2024 with Brian Angelichio and the Vikings, and 2025 with the Chiefs. Over those three seasons, Tonyan's production has drastically dropped off, catching just 12 passes for 113 yards and no touchdowns.
Davis, 27, is a former first-round pick (19th overall) by the Commanders in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was release by the Commanders in 2024, then bounced around between the Packers, Vikings and Jets for the remainder of that season. The Jets brought him back in 2025, but cut him before the season began. Davis later signed with the Raiders' practice squad in October 2025 and was later elevated to the active roster, playing under current Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Over his five-year NFL career, Davis has registered 287 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception, six passes defensed, 11 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
In a corresponding move, the Steelers waived tight end Chamon Metayer.
