In the past two weeks, Russell Wilson has thrown two interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown by Marlon Humphrey when the Steelers took on the Ravens and Wilson's last one, well, let's take a look:
Not great a play, especially because the Steelers were in the red zone and had a chance to cut the Chiefs' lead in half. Arthur Smith was asked about the route concept on the play Wednesday during his weekly press conference and had an interesting answer.
"I appreciate the question and I'm sure it's been asked a bunch but, not that," Smith said. "That's a lesson learned and so, you move on. But, that's why you coach and guys learn from mistakes or whatever, just like you do as a coach. You scheme something up and it doesn't work and you gotta realize why it didn't work. Was it the matchup you're asking? Or the timing and what have you."
Besides Wilson's pass into triple coverage, one could also look at George Pickens' route and think that's where the play went wrong. He seems to take a few steps off the line of scrimmage and then stops, which allowed Justin Reid -- after taking a few steps toward Pickens' side -- to revert to the middle of the field for the interception.
Mike Tomlin came to the defense of his star wide receiver earlier this week when asked if Pickens broke off his route early.
"Not at all," Tomlin said. "George's route running had zero to do with that interception. George was fine last weekend or last Wednesday."
