For the most part, Steelers fans are ecstatic over the team's acquisition of Michael Pittman Jr., solidifying a legitimate WR2 after two seasons of not having one. And it turns out, Pittman might be just as excited to don the black and gold.
"When I knew this was a possibility, I was really pumped for it," Pittman said Friday during his introductory press conference. "When I got the chance to talk to Coach Mike [McCarthy] and everything he said, the way he plans on using me, this and that, I just got fired up. I really was just making a push to try to get here."
For obvious reasons, Pittman didn't want to give away the "secret sauce" of how McCarthy plans to use him. What Pittman did explain was this opportunity with the Steelers gives him a chance to have a more diverse route tree.
The Steelers view Pittman as a diverse wide receiver, being able to play multiple spots. They'll trust him to play the X or Z spots, but also will move him into the slot from time to time, as well. On top of that, the coaching staff values Pittman's toughness and willingness to help in run blocking. Pittman seems to reciprocate that feeling, as well.
"I feel like Pittsburgh is my style of football," Pittman said. "That tough, smash mouth, gritty (style), I think I just fit in perfectly here."
