The Steelers fortified their defensive line depth on Friday, agreeing to terms with defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day on a two-year, $11 million contract, according to ESPN. The deal comes with Joseph-Day receiving $6 million in 2026.
Joseph-Day, who'll turn 31 on March 21, is coming off two seasons with the Titans. The former sixth-round pick out of Rutgers started his career with the Rams, and was part of the 2021 team that won the Super Bowl. Most recently, he spent the past two seasons with the Titans. In 2025, he recorded 41 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks and one fumble recovery.
Joseph-Day has been durable throughout his career, playing in at least 16 games in six of his seven NFL seasons. He has experience playing multiple techniques, including nose tackle. With the Titans, he primarily played further away from the center, as he logged the majority of his snaps in the B gap (between the guard and tackle), according to Pro Football Focus.
No matter where he plays, Joseph-Day will eat up space. He's not only 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, but he's known for being able to take on double teams very well, opening up space for linebackers to play more free and attack downhill. He's also very athletic, earning a 9.44 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) when he tested at the NFL Combine in 2018.
Considering that the Steelers already have Cam Heyward, Derrick Harmon and Keeanu Benton, Joseph-Day is a very good addition in the second wave of free agency. This really bolsters the depth on the defensive line.
