• McCarthy said they haven't discussed timelines on when they need a decision on Rodgers.

• Art Rooney II says they had an "open mind" about the type of coach they wanted, not looking for an offensive or defensive coach specifically. In the end, he said McCarthy was the "obvious" choice.

• McCarthy: "I will call the plays on offense."

• McCarthy: "The most important thing about playoff football is staying in the playoffs."

• McCarthy is asked how long he sees himself continuing to coach, he said he "hopes it lasts a very long time" but didn't put a range on it. The question noted how long his three most recent predecessors spent in Pittsburgh, and he said you "might have to switch to dog years" for him, given that he's 62.

• McCarthy: "I love the roster ... I think it's a roster that's fluid."

• McCarthy said he "definitely" wants Aaron Rodgers back next year. "I don't see why you wouldn't." He adds that they've spoken.

• McCarthy starts tearing up talking about how the last year was "about family" for him.

• McCarthy gets emotional as soon as he starts talking, he says that this team and fanbase "means the world to me" and says he's "honored" to follow in the footsteps of his friends Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin.
