The Steelers want Aaron Rodgers back. That much is clear and has been for weeks. However, the question isn't if they want him back for a 22nd NFL season, but how long they're willing to wait for him.
"(There's) no deadline. All I'll tell you guys is I don't foresee this going like it did last year," Omar Khan said Tuesday morning while addressing Pittsburgh reporters. "I don't really want to say it has to be done by (free agency). We'd like to have an idea. It isn't going to go like it did last year."
Last offseason, the Steelers were diligent in waiting on Rodgers to make a decision of whether or not he wanted to keep playing or retire. That situation wasn't resolved until Rodgers ultimately decided to sign just ahead of mandatory minicamp in June.
While there's no firm deadline from the Steelers, it might be because they expect an answer much sooner this time around.
"We've had conversations with him," Khan said. "It was a really good experience with Aaron. That option's still out there."
